Meet the Road 2 Romania 2016 team! Four team members will be staying in Romania for seven weeks during May and June. Another, larger team from Blue Ridge Bible Church will be joining them for the last two weeks of the trip. The seven-week team will be leading debate clubs for middle school, high school, and college students in Oradea. They also plan to organize a youth band, hold a couple of seminars, and do whatever else is asked of them.
Katie is facilitating the debate program alongside Abby and Thomas. Throughout high school, she competed in speech and debate with the National Christian Forensics and Communications Organization (NCFCA), has won multiple awards at the regional level, and qualified to national-level forensics competition. In the fall, she will be attending The King’s College to study Politics, Philosophy, and Economics with a minor in International Affairs. She is looking forward to sharing the love of God with students through debate instruction, as well as exploring and learning more about the beautiful country of Romania.
Hi, My name is Thomas Garber. I am 18 years old. This will be my second time in Romania. I went there in 2013 for two weeks. During that time, I helped build three greenhouses for Romanian locals, and I helped with a VBS camp for children. I am excited about this opportunity to serve in Romania. I will be helping with a couple of projects for the first five weeks. My primary task will be to help with the administration of the debate clubs. I will also be helping with the worship team. Please pray for me on this mission trip, it will be my first time out of the country for such an extended period of time.
Abby is very excited to experience Romanian culture as she assists with the debate program. Ever since she took her first debate class, she has absolutely loved debate. Abby competed in debate for 5 years, and she sees this trip as an opportunity to put her skills to a practical use. Abby plans to continue debating throughout college as she works towards a degree in Political Science. On this trip, she hopes to build relationships with the Romanian people and gain insight into whether teaching debate is something she might like to do long-term.
Hi, I’m Felicity and I’ll be heading up some worship and specifically be working with a youth band. I’m looking forward to experiencing another country as this will be my first time traveling outside of the United States. I have been singing all my life and have had 10 years of piano and 5 years of band experience. I can’t wait to see how God will use these talents, and I am looking forward to establishing some relationships with the people I will meet.
