Today is the day! The bags are packed, and we’re ready to go! I still can’t completely wrap my mind around the idea that TODAY our team of four will be leaving the good ol’ US of A until JULY. All the details have finally come together for this trip, something that I was doubtful would ever happen. But God is, as always, our faithful provider, and he has definitely provided for our team already in a number of ways.
Over the past several months, we’ve done so much snow shoveling, car washing, babysitting, flamingo-ing, and all other types of fundraising imaginable. Sometimes I thought we would never reach the end, but we did: we made it! God has blessed our fundraising efforts, and we have raised enough money that none of us will have to go hungry on the trip. (Except maybe Thomas, but I’m pretty sure he’s always hungry.)
Now that we have cleared the hurdle of preparing for the trip, lots of new challenges await us, and we’d greatly appreciate it if you would pray for us, specifically in the following areas:
Safe travel for today and tomorrow. We have two flights and a car ride ahead of us, and we will be in four countries within the space of twenty-four hours. Pray that none of our luggage will get lost, that WE won’t get lost, and that everything would go smoothly.
Our interactions as a team. I tell people that by the end of this trip, the four of us will either be best friends or worst enemies. Pray that we would work well as a team and that each of us would remember to “look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4)
Faithfulness in the “little things.” On a trip like this, it’s so easy to think that WE need to do this or that perfectly, that WE need to perform in a certain way in order to make the trip worthwhile. However, God probably has a completely different plan for this trip than what we have in mind. Pray that we would seek to glorify him no matter what we’re doing, especially when it seems like what we’re doing doesn’t really matter.
I’m really excited to see what God does in the next seven weeks! All of our plans (and lack thereof) are about to become reality! And, as Felicity would say, “Well, I can’t back out now.”
Today, our church will commission us, pray over us, and send us off on our trip. Next week, I will be writing our weekly update from Romanian soil… that’s just so weird to think about.
Until next week!
