Hi again, readers and prayer warriors! Wow, time is flying so quickly, and I can’t believe that we’re getting so close to leaving! I’d like to give you a little bit of an update on our preparations from the past week.
Since most of our fundraisers have (finally) been completed, we’ve had a chance to do a lot more “team-building” activities. We got to meet with former short-term missionaries to talk about the challenges of going on a short-term missions trip in a foreign country. They encouraged us to be faithful in our quiet times and to approach this opportunity with humble hearts. We also had a “Romanian Culture 101” Q&A session with Mrs. Metzgar. She shared many interesting and useful tips, including the fact that, at restaurants in Romania, you have to ask specifically if you want water that is not carbonated (apa plata).
It wasn’t all hard work, though. We also had fun activities, such as playing Ping-Pong and going to see Captain America: Civil War as a team. (Hey, it was educational. There are actually a couple lines of Romanian in that movie. We were thrilled by the fact that we could understand a few of the words.) We’re starting to learn how we work together and how we can use each other’s strengths and make up for each other’s weaknesses. I really enjoy seeing how we interact as a team. God has obviously hand-picked this group of individuals, and I’m very excited to experience this trip with them!
We’ve been working a lot on preparations, but because we’re getting so very close to our departure, there is a temptation, at least for me, to start stressing out and worrying that we won’t get everything ready in time. While we know that God is ultimately in control of everything involved in this trip, please pray with us that he will continue to work out the details!
Thank you so much for supporting us! This trip could not happen without your prayers and generosity. Well, I suppose I should probably go now and get started on my packing list…
